Rates & Policy

Hi, my name is David Putnam, and my goal is to teach and to inspire. To those who have no experience playing musical instruments, I would like to introduce the new and exciting world of playing an instrument and reading music. You will also learn to play by ear. For the more experienced players, I would like to challenge your ability and help you to the next level. I will be a coach, encouraging and motivating, as well as a teacher, providing the fundamentals.  Currently, I am teaching guitar, banjo, beginner bass, piano, and ukulele lessons.  I offer my time to those who are willing to meet with me as scheduled.

Specials

Special #1:  You are special to me and to thank you I would like to offer a month of free lessons! If you get two of your friends to sign up for a month in guitar, banjo, or ukulele lessons, you will receive a month of lessons free of charge!  All other lessons can receive cash by referring students to us here.  Print out some free business cards to hand out to your friends, family, and/or coworkers.

Special #2: Buy a Recital DVD and have a friend sign up for 2 months of lessons (8 lessons - half hour or 1 hour) and receive 2 - 1 hour lessons for yourself!

Make-ups

Sometimes the unexpected happens. Meetings come up, someone gets sick, etc. so if you must miss, all I ask is for a 24-hour notice after which you have 2 weeks from the day you missed to make up that lesson. Otherwise, you forfeit your money for that lesson. My time is valuable, and I offer it with respect and a commitment to you, so if you can give advance notice sooner than 24 hours it would be greatly appreciated.

Tips

I would recommend practicing at least 30 minutes a day. Leave your instrument out of its case where you will most likely pass by it often so that you can pick it up every chance you get. Listen to music you'd like to play. Nothing inspires us to play music more than music itself. Experiment; try playing by ear with the radio, make up new chord, melodies, picking patterns, etc... If needed, I would write up a personal practice routine for you – all you have to do is ask. The most important thing is to have fun that is what this is all about. So, when practicing, always start by playing something you love and always end playing something you love.  New Orleans Music Lessons

Student gives guitar teacher, David Putnam, an electric guitar!

When I have a student get excited about our lessons it really makes me happy inside to know that I can bring other people joy, especially, through music! I've had many tips given to me from my students over the years as a thank you to me for all they have learned from our lessons. I've received gifts that have ranged from money to books and more and I am so grateful for all. Just recently, I was given a guitar as a thank you from one of my jazz guitar students, Matthias. How cool is that?! (it's the cream guitar on the right).

Check out Matthias' band, Indyus. His music will definitely get you going!
